Accelerating your Career at Fairmont’s Mountain Resorts

Thinking of moving to the mountains, but also want some serious career progression? With Fairmont's Mountain Resorts you can do both! At Fairmont, we value colleagues who want to grow and learn, and we help them hit the accelerator on their career goals more than they ever thought was possible.

What does that look like? Well, this is different for every person depending on their goal. Maybe your goal is to gain experience in multiple departments or to progress up the career ladder in one department. Maybe you want to try working at different hotel types and broaden your knowledge, or maybe your goal is to be able to work in as many different countries as you can. Working for Fairmont means that all of these goals - and more - are possible. Here are just some of the ways that working for Fairmont means reaching your full potential faster.

Develop Skills in Multiple Areas

After 6 months in one role, you can apply to change positions - including departments within your hotel. Fairmont's Mountain Resorts prioritize internal applications, which means that even if you don't have all the qualifications for that role, if it's your dream job Fairmont will help you make a plan to get there. For example; recently one of our Front Office colleagues joined our Accounting Department; a Housekeeping colleague made the move to Talent & Culture; and a Food & Beverage colleague jumped to Marketing. There is endless opportunity to try your hand at something new whilst developing your skill set (all while making that resume stand out!).

Long term jobs in Whistler

Promotions, Fast Tracked

In the mountains, the average time someone spends in their role before receiving a promotion is eighteen months! This means that your career goals can be fast tracked. Across our four mountain hotels - Fairmont Banff Springs, Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise, Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge, and Fairmont Chateau Whistler - we advertise leadership opportunities each month through our Opportunity Knocks Program. This means that you have easy access for career progression across these four hotels.

For instance, you could join the Fairmont Banff Springs as a Supervisor - a year later, you could be an Assistant Manager at the Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise. BC calling your name? Your next step could be a Manager at the Fairmont Chateau Whistler. Rounding it out could be an executive at the Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge, before packing your bags and moving to Hawaii - because, did we mention that joining Fairmont means you have access to grow your career at over 5,000 hotels in countries all over the world. That's right! Your career opportunities can truly be limitless.

Professional Development

On a day to day basis, our hotels offer opportunities to learn and develop through networking, mentorship and professional development, in both formal and informal ways. For instance, each hotel offers their own (completely free!) Learning & Development Calendar chock full of courses that will help you grow every single day. Thinking of going back to school? Our partnership with Cornell University means that you have access to hundreds of courses and the ability to work through them all online (at a discounted rate!).

Of course, working in hotels full of talented individuals means that you get the opportunity to network with the best and brightest in Hospitality. Our world-class leaders have studied at some of the best schools in the world, worked at some of the most prestigious hotels, and have been awarded for their accolades in features like KML's Top 30 Under 30 Awards.

Plus, if you’re just starting out your career, we also have development programs to help you advance your career. For instance our Mountain Region's SUMMIT: Leadership Development Program offers an opportunity to gain cross-exposure in different roles and develop the talents needed to become an exceptional leader in hospitality.
