What advice would you give candidates to help them secure a job in Canada’s Western Mountain Region?

Tailor Your Resume & Bring Passion

"My first piece of advice for a successful candidate would be to tailor your resume. Always ensure it is up to date and outlines all relevant experience to the job you’re applying for. Don’t forget to check multiple times for spelling and grammar mistakes. Not only is this more professional, but it ensures we receive the correct information like your phone number or other contact information.

Pro tip: Always export your resume in PDF format before submitting it with your application.

My second piece of advice, passion! Passion for the job, for the brand, and especially for the Mountain Region. In the communication section of the application, candidates can write a message to the Hiring Manager. This is a great place to mention any personal connections or genuine interest you have for working at our mountain resorts." -Brianne Wittgen, Talent Acquisition Manager, Fairmont Banff Springs

Be Your Authentic Self

"This might be a common one, but it remains for a reason – be yourself. Applicants often approach an interview with Fairmont and try to “fit into the Fairmont box.” We’re brand-driven, but we’re all about culture. We’re interested in people who can help grow the Fairmont brand and company culture rather than people who try to fit into the mold of what they think the brand is looking for."

-AJ Duncan, Talent Acquisition Manager, Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise

"The best piece of advice I have for candidates applying to Fairmont's Mountain Region is to be authentically you. Authenticity is highly valued in the hospitality industry. Show your passion for providing exceptional service, let your true personality shine, and highlight your unique life experiences.

Being authentic helps you connect better with the team during the interview process and demonstrates your potential to create memorable experiences for all Fairmont guests. Remember, Fairmont values individuals who bring their true selves to their roles and contribute to the warm and welcoming environment that our colleagues create." -Prakul Khera, Talent Acquisition Manager, Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge

Research the Role and Company

"Prepare for your interview by doing research beforehand. “Doing research” simply means to gain knowledge and understanding of the Fairmont brand. Knowing our values, who our clientele is, and understanding what sets Fairmont apart from the competition is a sure-fire way to stand out from the other applicants.

Pro tip: Come prepared to your interview with examples of when you went above and beyond to wow a guest or client in your previous experience."

-Matthew Dalton, Talent Acquisition Manager, Fairmont Chateau Whistler

Emphasize Your Experience

"If I had to choose one piece of advice for our candidates, it would be to emphasize your customer service excellence and show your appreciation for the unique hospitality environment of the Mountain Region. Our properties are renowned for their luxury experiences and breathtaking locations, and it’s important to showcase your ability to provide exceptional guest service and enthusiasm for the natural beauty and outdoor activities available in our region."

-Nicole Praus, Talent Acquisition Manager, The Rimrock Banff

Ask Us Questions

"In Fairmont’s Mountain Region, it’s important to us that you are a great fit for our brand, but it’s equally important that we are a great fit for you too. Before you step into your interview, set aside some time to think about why your previous positions worked or didn’t work. Bring that information to the interview and make sure you ask questions surrounding those important details. For example: what style of leadership do you work best with, what are your expectations of the hours of work and flexibility, what did your training look like, how often was your performance evaluated, etc."

-Ashleigh Gibson, Regional Director, Talent Acquisition, Canada’s Western Mountain Region
